HYDERABAD: The second wave has come to an end in Telangana and Covid-19 is in control, said state health authorities stressing that this is the right time to reopen schools and colleges.
While the state government is currently thinking on these lines and will take a decision, only vaccinated staff should be allowed.
“We will ensure Covid-19 tests are conducted regularly. Also in future only vaccinated people will be allowed in malls, cinema halls etc,” said Dr G Srinivasa Rao, director public health, Telangana state.
The positivity rate has decreased to 0.5 per cent while R factor is down to 0.7 now, said the officials, adding that although cases are well under control, people should not let their guard down and seek timely medical help in case of any illness.
“With seasonal fevers, dengue and malaria on the rise, people should not delay treatment at all. Covid appropriate behaviour should be maintained and people should get themselves vaccinated at the earliest,” he added.
The official further said that 85 per cent of people in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits and 100 per cent of people in Hyderabad have received at least one dose of Covid vaccine.
Telangana records 423 new Covid-19 cases and 2 deaths
Telangana recorded 423 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths on Wednesday even as the number of active cases in the state stood at 6,912.
The total count of cases since the beginning of the pandemic last year stands at 6,53,626 and the death toll stands at 3,849.
The number of active containment zones in the state stood at 19.
Jagtiyal, Karimnagar and Nalgonda have majority of the active containment zones in the state.
A total of 449 patients were declared recovered on Wednesday, taking the total count of recovered patients to 6,42,865.
The case fatality rate (CFR) stands at 0.58 percent while the recovery rate stood at 98.35 per cent now.
So far 79.8 per cent of overall cases in the state have been asymptomatic while 20.2 percent have been symptomatic.
On Wednesday, 91,350 samples were tested for the novel coronavirus.
Telangana has now completed testing 2.36 crore samples and has reached 6.35 lakh sample testing per million population.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation recorded 73 cases on Wednesday, while neighbouring Medchal Malkajgiri recorded 23 cases, Ranga Reddy recorded 27 and Sanga Reddy recorded seven cases.
Outside of Hyderabad city and its outskirts, Karimnagar recorded the highest number of cases with 46 new cases being recorded on Sunday while Nalgonda, Sangareddy, Jangaon, Peddapalli, Yadadri Bhongir, Warangal Urban and Khammam saw more cases.
