Covid-19 hospital numbers and deaths falling in Nottinghamshire as vaccine roll-out underway

Hospital admissions for patients with Covid-19 continue to fall as the Pfizer vaccines continue to be given out to patients and staff in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

All NHS organisations and partners across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have been preparing for the roll-out of the vaccine for a number of weeks.

And the bed occupancy in the city and county's hospitals remains below 400.

The NHS says this is showing that measures in place are helping to reduce the numbers of cases in hospitals.

But there are 25 percent more patients in the county's hospitals with Covid than at the April peak.

The NHS in Nottinghamshire has recorded 195 admissions relating to Covid-19 in the seven days to December 9 compared with 246 for the previous seven days.

There were 372 beds occupied by Covid patients as of December 6. This compares to 375 on December 1.

Of those 372 beds, just under 10 percent were mechanically ventilated.

The numbers are still much higher than the county first experienced at the peak of the first wave.

In the week from December 3 to December 9 there were 39 Covid deaths, down from the 56 reported at the same time the week before.

So far, the NHS has had more than 2,000 applications to support with the Covid-19 vaccination delivery with more than 800 people ready to start.

Dr Andy Haynes, executive lead, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System, said: “This week has seen vaccinations start to be rolled out across Nottingham’s hospitals which is an important moment in the fight against the virus. This would not have been possible without the incredible amount of hard work and planning by colleagues across the system so I would like to thank everyone for their continued hard work.

“This is a very significant step in the right direction but we shouldn’t be under any illusion that the vaccination programme will take some time to complete. In the meantime, we still need the public to follow the latest guidance and adhere to the restrictions. Our hospital numbers are reflecting this and they continue to stabilise.

“The public have an important part to play in this next stage, we need you to continue to be safe and vigilant and follow the guidelines and we also need you to be patient.

"The NHS will contact you when it is your turn to be vaccinated; please don’t contact the NHS for an appointment. When you do receive an appointment, please make sure you attend.”
