Covid-19: Death toll in Kerala crosses 17k-mark

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state registered 23,676 positive cases while 1,99,456 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate was at 11.87%.

As many as 148 recent deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid taking the related death toll in the state to 17,103. At the same time 15,626 patients have recovered from the disease.

So far, 32,58,310 people have recovered from coronavirus infection in the state even as 1,73,221 patients are still undergoing treatment for the same.

Among the new cases 22,530 cases were infected through local spread. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 927 people. There are 114 health care professionals among those infected and 105 people have arrived from outside the state.

Malappuram reported the highest number of cases (4,276) followed by Thrissur (2,908), Ernakulam (2,702), Kozhikode (2,416), Palakkad (2,223), Kollam (1,836), Alappuzha (1,261), Kottayam (1,241), Kannur(1,180), Thiruvananthapuram (1,133), Kasaragod (789), Wayanad (787), Pathanamthitta (584) and Idukki (340).

The district-wise figures of people who got infected through local contacts are as follows: Malappuram 4,219, Thrissur 2,886, Ernakulam 2,651, Kozhikode 2,397, Palakkad 1,572, Kollam 1,828, Alappuzha1,250, Kottayam 1,160, Kannur 1,087, Thiruvananthapuram 1,051, Kasaragod 774, Wayanad 767, Pathanamthitta 555 and Idukki 333.

There are 62 local bodies with TPR below 5% , 294 with TPR between 5% and 10%, 355 with TPR between 10% and 15% and 323 with TPR above 15% in the state.
