Covid-19 daily figures from Department of Health show three people in ICU

Three people who tested positive for Covid-19 are in intensive care, figures released by the Department of Health today show.

The number is an increase on recent days when it was at zero. Health Minister Robin Swann had warned previously against complacency when infection rates had begun to rise but no one was in ICU.

Latest Covid stat’s from the Department’s ‘daily dashboard’ revealed a number of figures regarding the pandemic’s affect on Northern Ireland.

The latest stat’s show there were 49 people who tested positive on August 31. That figure tallies with the Chief Scientific Officer Ian Young’s assertion last week that Northern Ireland is now running at around 50 positives a day.

Over the last seven days, however, 461 people have tested positive, equalling an average of 65 per day.

The Local Government District breakdown of infection rates showed Belfast with the largest numbers, at 140 positives in the last seven days. Armagh City, Banbridge, Craigavon, however also showed significant numbers with 93 positives in the last seven days. Craigavon Area Hospital has been at the centre of a cluster over recent days.

The dashboard also shows that there are currently 18 ‘active Covid-19 care home outbreaks’.
