The Syrian Doctors Media Network published a list of 63 medics that it said had died as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent days.
This comes in contrast with the official declared number of deaths in Syria since the announcement of the first infection in March. The government had said that a total of 60 people have died due to the virus until Saturday.
In a list published on its Facebook page, the Syrian Doctors Media Network reported the death of 63 doctors, three of whom lost the battle against the coronavirus over the past 24 hours.
Last week, the Doctors Syndicate in Damascus mourned the death of 33 of its doctors on its official Facebook page as a result of their infection with COVID-19. It also published their names and photos, describing them in a statement as “martyrs of work and duty.”
Doctors account for the largest percentage of deaths due to infection with the coronavirus in Syria, followed by the lawyers, as the Bar Association announced in early August that about 16 Syrian lawyers had died as a result of infection with COVID-19.
The unofficial number of deaths among workers in public affairs reached around about 90 people, while the numbers of the Ministry of Health in Damascus are currently at 60, according to the last statistics recorded on Saturday.
