Covid-19 cases Ireland update as 1,352 more cases confirmed with 27 in ICU

A total of 1,352 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Ireland, while 177 patients are being treated in hospital.

27 people are in ICU with Covid-19.

The figures were confirmed by the Department of Health this afternoon.

It comes as walk-in vaccination centres around the country will continue to operate today after having an "inspiring" start over the weekend.

26 centres across Ireland are offering walk-in appointments today, two of which are in Dublin.

Croke Park and Aviva Stadium will be administering vaccines to anyone over the age of 16, with no registration necessary.

The walk-in centres got off to a blazing start over the weekend, with over 18,000 doses given since opening on Friday.

HSE chief Paul Reid took to Twitter to praise the performance of the centres, and urged all those over 16 who are not vaccinated to go get their first dose.

He said: ¨We´ve been ¨blown away¨ by attendances at walk-in clinics.

¨Young people in Ireland have been to the fore of changing this country for the better.

¨Now they´ve come out in numbers to protect themselves and us.

Reid labelled the past few days as ¨an inspiring weekend for the vaccination programme.¨

He revealed to his Twitter followers that 50% of attendees at the walk-in centres are aged 16-17 years old and 64% are 19 or younger.

Ireland has administered approximately 2.1 million vaccines in the last 6 weeks.
