Covid-19 cases in Bristol region surpasses 70,000 during pandemic as 401 new cases are discovered

The spread of coronavirus in the Bristol region has shown no sign of slowing after more than 401 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures, published by Public Health England today (June 29), found that 401 cases of the virus were found across the region. It comes after 435 cases were recorded yesterday.

Today's figures showed that Bristol had the highest number of new cases, after 233 people tested positive for the virus. It is the highest number of new cases found in the city since January 28, 2021.

South Gloucestershire had the second-highest number of cases with 81.

Bath and North East Somerset recorded 43 cases of the virus while North Somerset found 44 cases.

It means the total number of cases in the Bristol region has reached 70,218 since the start of the pandemic.

Thankfully, there were no coronavirus-related deaths recorded in today's update. However, one death was recorded in South Gloucestershire on Sunday, June 27.

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets.

  • Bristol: 33,975 (+233)
  • Bath and North East Somerset: 9,015 (+43)
  • North Somerset: 10,808 (+44)
  • South Gloucestershire: 16,420 (+81)

The number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test result in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new deaths, and deaths removed from the total following revisions to past data, in brackets.

  • Bristol: 483 (-)
  • Bath and North East Somerset: 217 (-)
  • North Somerset: 318 (-)
  • South Gloucestershire: 347 (-)
