COVID-19 case numbers from around the states and territories

Here's a quick wrap of Saturday, March 5's COVID statistics from around the states and territories.

This story will be updated throughout the day as the numbers are reported.

NSW

NSW has recorded 10 new COVID-related deaths and 10,017 positive cases.

The number of people in hospital has dropped slightly to 995, with 45 people in intensive care.

The ACT

Canberra has reported 696 new COVID-19 cases today, with almost half of those from rapid antigen tests.

Of the 39 people in hospital, two are in intensive care and one is on a ventilator.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded another 24 COVID-related deaths and 5,721 new cases.

The number of people in hospital has risen slightly to 250, up from 245 yesterday.

Tasmania

Tasmania has recorded 941 new COVID-19 cases and one COVID-related death in the latest reporting period.

Sixteen people are hospitalised with the virus, with four of them being treated in ICU.

Queensland

Another 12 COVID-19 deaths have been confirmed in Queensland today, as well as 4,152 new cases.

The state has more than 30,000 known active cases and 276 people are in hospital.

Northern Territory

There were 386 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the NT in the most recent reporting period, down from 660 cases in the previous reporting period.

A man in his 50s from a remote community in East Arnhem has become the 28th person in the Northern Territory to die with COVID-19.

South Australia

Another 1,861 COVID cases have been reported in SA.

Hospitalisations are sitting at 100, with 10 people in ICU and two people on ventilators.

Western Australia

WA has recorded 2,289 new COVID cases, with almost 800 of those identified via self-reported rapid antigen tests.

There are 28 people in hospital but no COVID-19 patients are being treated in intensive care at this stage.
