COVID-19 case graph drops further

The State COVID-19 graph slid further down to register 5,427 new cases on Sunday when 49,183 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

The active case pool dropped further from 75,017 on Saturday to 66,018 on Sunday, with 14,334 persons reported to have recovered from the disease. About 6% of the active cases are currently hospitalised.

Hospitalisations are on its way down. On Sunday, the total number of patients admitted with moderate or severe COVID in hospitals dipped to 3,821. New hospital admissions on the day was 551.

The State declared 48 COVID deaths, of which nine occurred within the last 24 hours and 39 were deaths which occurred in the last few days but which were declared only in the last 24 hours.

It also added 44 pending deaths to the official list of COVID fatalities. These are deaths which have now been accepted as COVID deaths by the government as per the new guidelines of the Centre and following the appeals filed by families.

In all, the official cumulative case fatality rose to 64,145. Of these, 29,357 (45.7%) deaths were added after October 2021, following the death reconciliation exercise.

The cumulative case burden now stands at 64,68,990.

Among districts, Thiruvananthapuram reported the highest number of new cases with 841 cases, Ernakulam 767, Kollam 537, Kottayam 456, Kozhikode 428, Thrissur 386, Alappuzha 321, Idukki 305, Wayanad 296, Malappuram 279, Palakkad 230, Pathanamthitta 263, Kannur 226 and Kasaragod 92.
