Covid-19 case confirmed at Bristol school and pupils told to isolate

Year Ten pupils at a Bristol school are self-isolating after a confirmed case of coronavirus in the school.

St Katherine’s School, in Pill Road, Ham Green, has told pupils in Year Ten to stay away from school until the end of the term after the positive Covid-19 test.

It is not clear how many students will self-isolate, with children that have been in close contact with the individual who tested positive being contacted.

The self-isolation period will last for two weeks until Friday October 23, which will coincide with the end of term.

The school accommodates 875 pupils, according to Ofsted.

Justin Humphreys, head teacher of the school, said in an email to parents: “We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.

“After a detailed investigation and following advice from PHE and national guidance, we are taking the following action:

“As your child is part of the Year 10 group bubble in which a positive case has been reported, they must stay at home and self-isolate until Friday, October 23, 2020, i.e. the end of term (this is 14 days after the reported contact).

“Therefore we plan to welcome Year 10 students back to school on Tuesday, November 3.”
