Covid-19 boost for Leeds Rhinos ahead of Leigh Centurions clash

Leeds Rhinos' game with Leigh Centurions is not in danger despite a Covid-19 outbreak at their most recent opponents.

Salford confirmed on Wednesday that their next two fixtures have been cancelled after a positive lateral flow test led to a large portion of their first-team squad being forced into self-isolation. Rugby League Live understands that as many as eleven Salford players were identified as close contacts of the positive case.

Given how that positive was reported within 48 hours of Leeds' win at the AJ Bell Stadium on Sunday that immediately raised fears that the Rhinos could themselves be impacted by track and trace or another Covid outbreak themselves.

However, Rugby League Live can reveal that Leeds conducted another full round of lateral flow testing on Wednesday morning in light of the news emerging from Salford - and no positive cases were reported.

That means Leeds' squad are clear to proceed with their plans for Thursday night's meeting with the Centurions as planned, and with the issues at Salford arising from a training session on Monday, it means the Rhinos have not been notified any of their players have been identified as close contacts.

The news will be a relief to the Rhinos, who have just emerged from their own enforced break due to a Covid outbreak at Emerald Headingley.
