Coverage of Celtic vs Rangers cut short by Sky for English football

Celtic host Rangers in one of the biggest games of the season on Sunday but supporters will have to go searching for post-match reaction.

The fixture has a habit of producing drama and today was no different in a breathless, brilliant clash. However, supporters were forced to hit the red button following the conclusion of the game as Sky turn their attention to Cardiff vs Chelsea and Sunderland vs Portsmouth in the EFL Trophy Final.

The Celtic Park showdown, which was on both the broadcaster's main event and football channels, turned straight to the action in the Premier League and at Wembley respectively.

That means there were no interviews from Neil Lennon or Steven Gerrard.

Scottish supporters have previously hit out at the broadcaster, who will assume sole control of the Premiership from next season after agreeing a bumper £100million three-year deal, for the lack of build-up of big matches compared to rivals BT Sport.

The game is a ratings winner for Sky Sports (SNS Group)

A host of gaffes haven't helped either and fans will be left miffed as they need to go hunting to hear the views of Gerrard and Celtic boss Lennon's views after the game.

It's good news the game is getting top billing but much of the intrigue from the fixture emerges after the final whistle.

Sky posted on Sunday: "It's Old Firm Day!

"Watch Celtic v Rangers live on Sky Sports Football and Main Event from 11am.

"Please note all post-match reaction will be on the red button due to a bumper day of football on Sky Sports."

Supporters on social media were quick to hit out over the decision.

@KingsofLyon wrote: 'Put the Cardiff game on the red button! Horrible by Sky, biggest game in the world bumped."

@Jhnfgn replied: "Treating Scottish football as a second class product, never!"
