Coventry University student found dead at halls of residence accommodation

A student has been found dead at his university halls of residence, police have confirmed.

The Coventry University student, said to be in his 20s, had been living at the Bishop Gate complex in the city centre.

Police were called to the accommodation block on Friday (October 16), where the man's body was found.

Coventry University have confirmed that the man was one of their students, and said support was being offered to his family.

West Midlands Police say the man's death is not being treated as suspicious, and has been referred to the coroner.

The tragedy comes after a 19-year-old University of Manchester student was found dead at his halls of residence in Fallowfield.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We were called to the student accommodation on Friday (16 Oct) where the body of a man in his 20s was found.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the Coroner."

A Coventry University spokesperson said: "We are saddened by the death of one of our students. Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this awful time and we are offering all the support we can to the family. 

"We have a full range of mental health support services available for students and colleagues affected by this tragic news.

"We ask that the family’s privacy be respected."
