A former soldier who was shot and killed during an intelligence led police raid in Coventry was not shot in the back, West Midlands officers said today.

Sean Fitzgerald, 31, died as police raided a property in Burnaby Road in the city on Friday evening.

He was shot in the back and killed during the raid by armed police.

Friends of the victim had claimed he was shot in the back while attempting to flee the premises but the investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct today anounced there was no indication that he was hit in the back.

Two men arrested at the scene have been released, West Midlands Police added.

One was released on bail, the other under investigation. The Independent Office for Police Conduct investigation continues.

A statement said: "Police have bailed a 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis and released another man, also 26, under investigation as inquiries continue."
