Coventry City vs Sunderland kick-off time, TV channel and how to watch Championship clash

Sunderland will prepare to travel down to Championship opponents Coventry City this weekend as they look to get back into the playoff places with a win this afternoon.

Leeds United loanee Joe Gelhardt's first goal for the club was unable to inspire a comeback in midweek however, as Tony Mowbray's side suffered just their second defeat of the year where they lost to Rotherham United.

Their opponents, the Sky Blues, won out against the Millers in their last match in dominant fashion, meaning that they'll be well up for this clash which would see them close the gap to the playoff places.

Form guide

The Black Cats have enjoyed a resurgence under Tony Mowbray and are pushing for playoff places as we head into the business end of the season. But just two wins in their last five means they've fallen eight points behind Middlesbrough in third, but could go fourth with a win from eighth.

The Sky Blues have also enjoyed a solid season so far and have seemingly put their early season woes and pitch issues behind them. Three wins in their last five mean they currently sit in 11th, four points back from Mowbray's men.

Head to head

In the last six meetings between these two sides, Sunderland have won just once - a 2-0 win back in 2007 with goals coming from Dwight Yorke and Carlos Edwards.

Since then, three of the last five meetings have been 1-1 draws with 1-0 and 5-4 wins for Coventry sprinkled in. Historically, the Sky Blues also have the upper hand over Sunderland.

The Black Cats have only won 12 of their 43 meetings in the past, but have only lost 15, with the other 16 finishing as draws.
