Coventry City set to ramp up efforts to sign Nottingham Forest striker Tyler Walker

Coventry City look set to ramp up their efforts to sign Nottingham Forest striker Tyler Walker, with a permanent move said to now be favourable to the West Midlands club.

The Sky Blues first shown interest in making an approach for the Reds man last week , as they targeted the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for striker Conor Chaplin.

Chaplin, who joined Coventry for £500,000 last summer, was subject to a £700,000 bid from Barnsley earlier in the window which Mark Robins' side turned down.

But now the Tykes have improved their offer, according to CoventryLive, and Chaplin is now in South Yorkshire to have a medical and discuss personal terms.

Initially, City were only interested in bringing Walker in on a season-long loan, but should Chaplin's departure go through, they could acquire the funds to try for a permanent move.

Walker has not made a competitive first team appearance for the Reds since January 2018, having spent the last 18 months on loan with Bolton Wanderers and Mansfield Town.

And with Sabri Lamouchi currently light in attack, he could still have a key part to play next term.

Following the exits of Karim Ansarifard and Hilal Soudani, Daryl Murphy and Jason Cummings have both been told that they do not feature in the Frenchman's plans on Trentside.

On Tuesday, Walker played  the final 20 minutes against Olympiacos in Athens, replacing Lewis Grabban.
