Coventry City defender compares Bristol City loan star to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi

Coventry City defender Kyle McFadzean has heaped the highest of praise on Bristol City's on-loan midfielder Liam Walsh.

Walsh has been one of the stand out performers for Mark Robins' side this season during his loan spell from Bristol City, leaving many Robins' fans excited to have him back among the side next year.

And it's not just the eyes of the fans he has caught with his performances, with the former MK Dons defender comparing him to one of the best players in world football.

McFadzean has had a stellar career in the Football League and even played with Tottenham and England midfielder Dele Alli, but puts Liam Walsh among the best players he has played with in his career.

Walsh has scored three goals and set up four more in 25 league games for Coventry this season, but McFadzean thinks the former Everton midfielder will make it right to the top of the game and revealed a nickname he has for Walsh.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, he said: “This squad reminds me of when I got promoted with MK Dons.

“We had a lot of young players and some went on to play for England, some went to the Championship and Premier League, so it’s a bit similar.

“We have got some really, really good players and when I say that I mean it.

"We have got some class players and we have just got to keep our heads down and who knows what will happen.

“Deli Alli was one of the players I played with but when you look at Liam Walsh , he’s one of the best players I have played with. Honestly. I call him Messi.

“It’s a big statement, I know.”

And when asked how far he thinks Walsh can go in his career, he said: “I think Premier League, me. I really do. He’s really good. Class really.

“He had his injury earlier in his career but if he hadn’t had that he’d be in the Premier League now.”

Walsh is likely to return to City and push for a place in the first team come the end of the season after his fine year at St Andrew's, and if McFadzean's comments are anything to go by Walsh will be an asset to the Robins' midfield.

Walsh signed for Bristol City in January of 2018 from Everton on a two and a half year contract, but has an option of a year extension which the club can trigger if they wish.
