Armed police scrambled to Coventry city centre this evening following reports of shots being fired from a flat window.

The shopping area of the city was put on lockdown after reports of a man "discharging a firearm from a flat window" in Broadgate.

It later transpired that the gun was firing blanks.

A statement from Coventry Police said: "We have arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm.

"Thankfully, there are no reported injuries. Thanks to all members of the public for their patience tonight."
