Coventry City boss Mark Robins admits pitch concerns ahead of Bristol Rovers game

Coventry City boss Mark Robins admits he has concerns over facing Bristol Rovers on the Ricoh Arena's pitch on Sunday.

The Gas make the trip to the Ricoh Arena the day after Wasps play Worcester on a pitch that has come in for criticism for its poor condition.

Robins told Coventry Live that he was not looking forward to facing the Gas at the Ricoh Arena.

He said: "I think we have played brilliantly against a lot of teams this season and not really got what we needed.

"Clearly they focus the mind when you play teams like that (at the top end) but we have got some tough games to play.

"Bristol Rovers at home is going to be a tough game on that pitch.

"We have just got to make sure we prepare like we do and really have a go.

"I think they lost on Saturday and in midweek as well, so they will have lost a little bit of ground."

Sky Blues fans have also spoken about the poor state of the Ricoh pitch on Twitter.

The situation is reminiscent of a year ago, when Wasps CEO Nick Eastwood explained that back-to-back fixtures were to blame.

"This year, it sounds like a terrible pun, but it's been the perfect storm," said Eastwood to Coventry Live in March 2018.

"We've had an unusual number of double headers on the pitch.

"Really we should be able to restrict them down to three or four and we've had about eight off the top of my head."

Whilst there have been just back-to-back fixtures so far this season, this weekend's double header is the second one in under a month.
