An elderly man is fighting for life after being hit by a van in Covent Garden.
The 83-year-old was struck by the vehicle in Bedford Street just before 10am yesterday.
Traffic came to a standstill across a large area of the capital as police and London Ambulance Service cordoned off roads to respond to the emergency.
The Met said: “We were called at 9.55am on Tuesday, October 8 to reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian at Bedford Street.”
The man was taken to hospital where he was in a critical condition.
The driver of the van stopped at the scene. There have been no arrests.
