Coutinho transfer twist, Liverpool target speaks out, Man United to sign teen - European rumours

There has been plenty of movement already this summer when it comes to the transfer window and some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Eden Hazard's move from Chelsea to Real Madrid.

The Belgian made the move from west London to the Spanish capital earlier this month, after a transfer saga that dominated the headlines in the final few weeks of the season.

And there could be further moves in the next few weeks, with several high-profile players linked with switches before the end of the summer.

Below, we look at the latest football transfer news and rumours from around Europe.

De Ligt latest

Juventus are now leading the race to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax,  according to reports .

Barcelona were the favourites to land the 19-year-old at the beginning of the off-season but have now ended their interest due to wage demands.

The Ajax captain led his side to a domestic double and the semi-finals of the Champions League this past season but is definitely leaving Holland this summer.

It’s just a matter of where and now Juventus are said to be leading the race for his signature ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, with Manchester United having been linked as well.

But it’s a switch to Italy which has been talked up in the last 24 hours as Juventus close in on capturing the centre-back.

Liverpool 'target' speaks out

Real Betis starlet Junior Firpo has been linked with Liverpool and here is what he has had to say about his future, per El Larguero.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be interested.

"Did Madrid call me? If you want to know, you can ask them. I have said that Real Madrid was more attractive to me because my father is from Madrid," Firpo explained.

"This has nothing to do with where I would rather play. Honestly, the team that is most interesting to me right now is Real Betis, where I have been since I was young."

Coutinho twist

Liverpool were reportedly back in the race for Philippe Coutinho in the past week after reports in Europe said they were interested in the midfielder.

Coutinho left Anfield in January 2018 for Barcelona, but has struggled to make an impact, despite winning back to back La Liga titles. This has led to speculation about his future, with Liverpool linked.

Now, however,  Mundo Deportivo  say that sources close to the player indicate a return to Liverpool is not on the cards.

Coutinho has also been linked with Chelsea but the Blues currently have a two-window transfer ban hanging over their heads.

United signing

Manchester United have reportedly signed a teenage sensation from Spain, according to The Sun .

Real Zaragoza are said to have agreed terms with United for the transfer of 16-year-old Mateo Mejia.

The Red Devils are believed to have beaten off interest from the Premier League and La Liga.

United have paid £600K according to the report, with Mejia dubbed as a goal-scoring wide player.
