Being a courtroom sketch artist is a rare and incredibly difficult job which requires a level of talent many of us could only dream of.
UK law prevents making images of any kind in court - including photographs and drawings - so artists have the near impossible task of having to produce sketches from memory, using only the written notes they are permitted to make in the room at the time.
Creating an image which closely resembles the stranger they are blindly sketching is a skill held by a very select few - but it appears critics aren't so forgiving when the subject is a recognisable face.
A drawing of Johnny Depp from his appearance at the High Court in London has been shared on social media with users claiming there is "no excuse" for the depiction of the Hollywood star.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor has been giving testimony during his libel trial against News Group Newspapers, in which he is suing NGN over a story published in The Sun in 2018 which branded him a "wife beater" - a claim which he strenuously denies.
Many poked fun at the drawing released, with one writing: "This courtroom sketch of Johnny Depp is me pretending to be ok in job interviews right now."
A second said: "I know court artists have to leave the room and draw these things from memory, so they often don’t render a great likeness. But when it’s Johnny Depp, they can practise all they like before arriving. There’s really no excuse for this."
Another added: "Loving the court artist’s completely un-movie-star-like sketch of Johnny Depp."
Some enjoyed the depiction of the 57-year-old, as one commented: "Hats off to the sketch artist doing the Johnny Depp v Amber Heard courtcase. Those cheekbones are exquisite."
Others simply questioned the need for the drawings at all, saying: "Anyone else find the court drawings of Johnny Depp totally unnecessary? We've all seen Blow, save your efforts court artist. My imagination's got this one thanks."
But thankfully others defended the difficult job, with one snapping back: "Here comes [the] comments about the Johnny Depp courtroom artist. Guessing no one's ever, you know, actually done that kind of work? It's a wee bit harder than it looks."
