Courtney Lawes OUT of Wales clash after pulling up lame in training

England's plans to launch Courtney Lawes at Wales have been torpedoed by a training ground injury.

The Northampton star had taken aim at club mate Dan Biggar, warning Wales playmaker he was out to get him in Cardiff on Saturday.

But no sooner had the plan been hatched than Lawes was crocked in England’s big session of the week.

Instead, Eddie Jones has gone outside the squad which beat Italy a fortnight ago to recall Newcastle blindside Mark Wilson.

In the only other change to the side which beat the Azzurri with a patchy performance, Jamie George is recalled at hooker in place of Luke Cowan-Dickie.

Cowan-Dickie was one of the standout players against Italy so will consider himself unfortunate to be relegated to the bench.

Jones said: “Wales is a really special fixture and rivalry. There is a long history between the two nations and the game means a lot to both countries.

“We know we’ll be up against a strong Welsh challenge on Saturday, but we’ve worked really hard in training this week and have got a very good team to face it.

“We want to show people what we are capable of, keep building our performances and the best is yet to come from this England team.”

In the one other change on the bench teenage Leicester lock George Martin gets a surprise call in place of the injured Jack Willis.
