Courtland Sutton’s crazy catch vs. Browns didn’t surprise Vic Fangio

Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton bailed out quarterback Brandon Allen during last week’s game against the Browns by jumping over a cornerback to haul in a 21-yard touchdown pass.

After a 24-19 win, Denver coach Vic Fangio said that’s exactly the kind of play he has come to expect from the 6-4 wide receiver.

“I expect that out of Courtland,” Fangio said. “When a big guy, a big receiver like that, you have to put it up there and give him a chance to win those 50-50 balls and Courtland did. That’s a guy making a play.”

Allen’s numbers benefitted again later in the game when tight end Noah Fant did most of the work on a 75-yard touchdown pass. After the game, Allen was quick to praise his teammates for their performances.

“They helped me out a lot,” Allen said. “I made some dicey throws that Courtland bailed me out a couple times on. Noah, what an incredible play by him just to catch that ball and take it the distance. It was incredible.”

Denver has a bye this week before facing the Vikings in Week 11.
