Courtland Sutton ready to step up as Broncos’ No. 1 WR

Even before the Broncos traded Emmanuel Sanders, Courtland Sutton was the team’s primary wide receiver, leading the team in receptions (36), yards (564) and receiving touchdowns (three). Now that Sanders is no longer on the roster, Sutton is officially listed as the top receiver on the depth chart.

Officially being the No. 1 WR won’t change much for Sutton.

“I just show up and go to work every day. Nothing is really going to change for me,” Sutton said Wednesday. “I go to work every single day. I go out there and I put my best foot forward when I step on the field.

“Like I said, no matter where I was on the depth chart, it didn’t matter to me. I was going to go out there and put my best foot forward and that’s what is going to continue to happen right now.”

Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco seemingly indicated Wednesday that Sutton was already a No. 1 receiver even before the trade.

“Courtland is obviously that guy,” Flacco said. “Nothing is really going to change for him. He’s just going to have to keep going out there and do what he’s been doing.”

Sutton, 24, was selected by Denver in the second round of last year’s draft out of SMU. His rookie contract runs through the 2021 season.
