Courtland Sutton pleased that Drew Lock is learning from Peyton Manning

Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock has drawn great reviews from his teammates since taking over as a starter late last season.

“The dude plays with — he has so much swag and so much heart and so much want to learn,” wide receiver Courtland Sutton said of Lock during a Zoom conference call with reporters on Thursday. “Y’all have heard all the stuff about him being around Peyton [Manning]. That should show something. A quarterback going into his second year who is reaching out to a first-ballot Hall of Fame, Super Bowl-winning quarterback and trying to get advice and understanding from him.

“That should show a lot about his character and about his drive and about his want to be successful reaching out to one of the greats to do it.”

Lock reached out to Manning last season and the two-time Super Bowl champion has been serving as a mentor for him since then. After helping the Broncos go 4-1 in their last five games last season, Lock will aim to take what he’s learned from Manning and apply it in 2020.

“I know there’s a lot of promise,” Sutton said. “I know I’m not the only one excited about Drew. I’m pretty sure Drew’s excited about being able to go out there and strap them up and be able to go use these weapons that we have on the offense. I’m more excited than anything when it comes to Drew’s promise this upcoming season.”

Lock completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 1,020 yards with seven touchdowns against three interceptions in limited action last year. He’ll look to build on those numbers as a full-time starter this season.
