Courtland Sutton, DaeSean Hamilton building chemistry with new Broncos QB Joe Flacco

Denver Broncos wide receivers Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton are entering their second seasons in the NFL but what they learned about Case Keenum last year won’t matter. They’ll have to learn the tendencies of a new quarterback this offseason.

Sutton and Hamilton need to build chemistry with new Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco, who was acquired through a trade with the Baltimore Ravens in March. So far, so good.

“I love catching his passes,” Hamilton said after practice on May 21. “He has a great arm. He has great touch as well, and throughout minicamp and all his OTAs he’s had great command of the offense and delivering a good ball making sure it’s in the right position and the offense is rolling.”

Sutton and Hamilton have already made progress with Flacco but they still have a ways to go.

“I think it’s going to continue to grow even throughout the season,” Sutton said on May 20. “There will be things that we see. We go against the same defense every day but once we start going against other defenses and we watch film together and get to break down stuff, we are going to continue to grow that connection.

“I don’t think it ever really stops you always get to learn what he likes and what he doesn’t like, and he gets to learn where I’m going to be and how I like to get the passes in certain places on certain plays. So, reps are key.”

Broncos veteran receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who is still recovering from an Achilles injury, hasn’t been practicing but he is observing and communicating with Flacco, which will help him from falling too far behind.

By the time training camp and preseason wrap up, Denver’s receivers should be the same page with their new quarterback.
