Sports hospitality packages for the upcoming Rugby World Cup are selling well despite the high prices, which start at about 75,000 yen (693 dollars) per head.
A common fixture at sports events in the West, the packages, which combine sports viewing, high-end services and exclusive access, are becoming popular among companies eager to entertain clients and high-earners able to afford such luxuries.
STH Japan K.K., a joint venture between JTB Corp. and a British firm, is the exclusive provider of sports hospitality for the Rugby World Cup, which kicks off on Friday.
Ticket holders will be able to enjoy a full-course meal at dining facilities near the stadium and hear former rugby players share pre- and post-match information about the fixture. Packages also include match tickets, so after being wined and dined, ticket holders will make their way to the stadium to enjoy the games.
A 2 million yen package that includes tickets to seven matches at International Stadium Yokohama has sold out, STH Japan said. About 60,000 hospitality packages were up for grabs.
"Watching sports with others unites spectators. Demand is expected to be high for [sports hospitality] as a way to entertain clients," a company spokesperson said.
The company plans to offer similar hospitality packages for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
