Courteney Cox wishes Friends co-star and 'gem' Matt LeBlanc a happy birthday

Courteney Cox wished a special happy birthday to her Friends co-star Matt LeBlanc on Sunday.

The actress, 57, took to her Instagram Stories to pay tribute to her pal as he celebrated turning 54.

Alongside a recent sweet snap of the pair, Courteney wrote: "Happy birthday to this GEM of a human being @mleblanc.

Courteney - who played Monica Geller in the iconic sitcom - and Matt (Joey Tribiani) were smiling at the camera in the picture as the pair rolled back the years.

Fans of the actor also flocked to social media to show their love.

Many left him a simple happy birthday while others threw up a host of throwback images showing Matt in character as the womanising Joey.

And the Friends official Twitter page also sent their best wishes to one of their main characters.

It commented: "Happy Birthday Matt LeBlanc!" while sharing a gif of the star pulling a great dance move in front of Chandler and Phoebe during one of the episodes.

Just a day ago Courteney was also sending birthday wishes to her boyfriend Johnny McDaid a happy 45th birthday.

She wrote: "'Happy Birthday to my best friend and love. He's the kindest, most patient, best listener, curious, caring, not to mention talented and gorgeous partner. I love you jmd. x"

And the birthday wishes follow the news that Friends: The Reunion special sen her nominated for an Emmy award.

Alongside co-stars Matt, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, Courteney was nominated in the Outstanding Variety Special category for the team's work as executive producers on the hugely successful HBO Max reunion show.

While admitting that she was "so happy" to have been recognised with the nomination, she confessed that it wasn't what she had in mind for her first Emmy.

"Honestly, I am so happy that the reunion has been recognised because I think it's terrific," she said.

She also added that it person behind the reunion, Ben Winston, and his team "did a great job".

She ended by saying: @That's not exactly the Emmy I was looking for. I'm being honest with you."
