Courteney Cox shares grim reality behind filming Friends fountain scene

Courteney Cox may have ruined the magic of the opening credits for Friends fans.

In the title sequence, stars of the show, Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc were seen frolicking in a big fountain.

But apparently, according to Cox, we shouldn't be fooled by all the wide grins and positive vibes that everyone was giving off as she revealed filming that scene wasn't as fun as it seemed.

The 56-year-old actress cast her mind back to what it was like to film the iconic NBC sitcom title sequence on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

While discussing the upcoming HMBO Max Friends reunion special, DeGeneres pulled up a picture of the fountain and asked whose idea it was to get in.

"Well, it definitely wasn't mine," joked Cox.

She went on to reveal, "we were in that fountain for a long time. Someone thought that would be fun and let me tell you what happened: it's not fun to be dancing in a fountain for hours and hours."

"I remember Matthew Perry saying at one point—and we didn't know each other that well at that point—but I remember, and this is so Matthew, but he was like, 'Can't remember a time that I wasn't in this fountain.'

"Literally, we were just like, 'How much longer are we going to pretend to love dancing in water?' But it was fun—but not really."

But not all was doom and gloom for Cox as she reminisced over the fond memories she had of the show.

Speaking of what it was like filming the reunion, she admitted: "It was unbelievable, so emotional," as it was the first time the cast had all been together on a sound stage in 15 years.

She added: "It was great—we had a lot of special surprises... it was fantastic, it really was."
