Courteeners will headline a charity gig in Manchester next month - with more acts to be announced

Courteeners are going to be headlining a charity concert at Manchester's O2 Victoria Warehouse next month.

Lead singer Liam Fray appeared on Johnny Vaughan's drivetime show on Radio X this evening with mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham to announce the news.

Raise the Roof will take place on Friday May 24, helping to tackle homelessness by raising money for charity A Bed Every Night.

In a tweet posted from the Courteeners Twitter account, it appears that there are more acts to be added to the bill.

Burnham said on Radio X: "I'm a very lucky man Jonnny. The music industry here in Manchester has come to me and said 'Can we do something to help with your drive around rough sleeping and homelessness?'

"What we're announcing today is the launch of Raise the Roof, which is the industry's response and a special night."

The gig will be hosted by DJ Sunta Templeton.

To get tickets, fans will need to text RAISE to 84988 by 12pm on Friday May 3 - this will make a £10 donation to the charity and enter fans into a ballot for tickets.
