Court reinstates Aaron Hernandez’s murder conviction

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court reinstated former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez’s murder conviction on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

Hernandez was found guilty in 2015 of killing player Odin Lloyd.

The Supreme Judicial Court, the highest level court in the state, restored the murder conviction, which was in question after Hernandez killed himself in prison in April 2017. A legal principle put the conviction in doubt, because Hernandez’s appeal was unresolved at his time of death and he would be able to be present for the appeal. That legal principle was unfair to victims and outdated, prosecutors said, via the AP.
