A solicitor who started her career as an in-house government lawyer has joined the Nottingham office of East Midlands law firm Nelsons – boosting its specialist Court of Protection team.
Gemma Hopper qualified as a solicitor in 2016 with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), an executive agency to the Ministry of Justice that helps people in England and Wales stay in control of decisions about their health and finance.
She has multiple areas of expertise including the Mental Capacity Act 2005, lasting and enduring powers of attorney, statutory wills, attorney and deputy authorities, gifting applications made into the Court of Protection and OPG authority, including supervision and investigations.
Gemma said: "I’m incredibly excited to move to a firm like Nelsons – it has a fantastic reputation for managing the affairs of vulnerable people who need more specialist support.
"I’m keen to expand my knowledge of providing assistance and guidance in making more complex Court of Protection applications and continue my career working alongside the team at Nelsons.
"The Court of Protection is an incredibly specialist area of law that requires a certain kind of approach.
"When you’re representing vulnerable people and their families it’s of paramount importance that you’re able to empathise and form a trusting relationship with them, so they can feel at ease at what can be a very challenging time in their lives.”
