Assault and intimidation charges against off-contract NRL player Jamil Hopoate have been mentioned for the first time in a regional NSW court.
The former Brisbane Broncos player was arrested in Port Macquarie in December after allegations of an assault.
He did not appear in Port Macquarie Local Court on Wednesday and a registrar adjourned the case to February 3 after Hopoate's lawyer made contact via email, court records show.
Hopoate, who was granted bail by police, will not be required to face the court on February 3 if he's legally represented.
The 26-year-old was charged with three counts of common assault, two of stalking or intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical harm and one charge of mid-range drink driving.
Two of the assault charges related to the December 28 incident are domestic violence-related.
Hopoate's contract expired at the Broncos at the end of the 2020 season, in which he played most of his 12 games off the bench.
He is the second-eldest son of former Manly winger John Hopoate.
