Court imposes rare closure order on notorious Lockleaze home after spike in antisocial behaviour

Magistrates have imposed a rare closure order on a notorious Lockleaze home after spike in antisocial behaviour.

The court ruling means the property on Flaxman Close will be shut down for three months.

Residents complained about finding drug paraphernalia, and being woken throughout the night by 'disturbances' at the property.

It's believed this is only the third time Avon and Somerset Constabulary has used the recently-enacted anti-social behaviour order powers in this way.

During the first two cases, two houses in BS5 - 17-storey Croydon House in Croydon Street, and nearby Lansdowne Court in Easton Road were shut.

And the third saw a troubled tower block in Barton Hill partially closed for three months.

PCSO Cherie Broadfield said: "People living nearby spoke about finding drug paraphernalia in the vicinity of the address and said a lot of people would come and go from the property all hours of the day and night often causing disturbances in the street resulting in the police attending.

"This made life for residents particularly unpleasant and understandably they wanted the issue tackled and so we're pleased the court has granted this closure order.

"Acts like this are made possible by the community coming forward and telling us of the issues they are unfairly facing.

"We're grateful that the residents of Lockleaze have placed their faith in us and hope the steps taken make their neighbourhood a safer and more enjoyable place to live."

If you are experiencing ongoing antisocial behaviour in your area, report it online or on 101.

You can also provide information anonymously and in confidence by calling crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will not go to court or have to speak to police when contacting Crimestoppers.
