Court hears two American bulldog terriers savaged and killed a cat in garden

A cat was savaged and killed by two American bulldog terriers in a Hamilton garden in front of horrified witnesses.

Annemarie Morrison, 30, of Neilsland Street, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court today (Wednesday).

She admitted being in charge of the dogs, Georgie and Ryder, and permitting them to cause injury to the family pet.

The incident happened in the communal garden outside Morrison’s home on April 22 last year.

The cat, which belonged to a 62-year-old woman, died after being bitten repeatedly.

The dogs belonged to Morrison’s partner, Dominic Douglas, 30, of Hillside Crescent, Hamilton.

He was alongside her in the dock, but his not guilty plea was accepted and he walked free.

The court heard Douglas had left the dogs at his girlfriend’s home. He arrived there shortly after the attack.

The dogs were allowed to roam free and were unmuzzled and unsupervised when they attacked the cat.

Sheriff Mhairi Mactaggart deferred sentence on Morrison until March 30.

It’s understood that the nature of this particular charge means the sheriff has no power to order destruction of the dogs.
