Court hears spitting thug has been in jail in each of the last ten years of his life

A serial offender has spent time behind bars in each of the last 10 years, a sheriff was told.

Ross Wright was back in prison again after an incident involving his partner in Blantyre.

The 27-year-old admitted spitting on the woman in Stonefield Road on July 25 while on bail.

Wright also admitted having an offensive weapon - a brick - when police officers confronted him and assaulting three officers with punches and kicks.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that police officers were called after the spitting incident and Wright was found in a nearby street.

Chloe O'Hara, prosecuting, said: "He picked up a brick and brandished it at the officers.

"He was told to drop it and shouted, 'you have weapons and now I have one'.

"He eventually complied with the request to drop the brick, but hit out after being placed in the police van."

Wright's solicitor told the court: "He's been in custody every year since 2013.

"He was released from prison in December last year and there followed the longest period he has spent in the community over the past 10 years.

"He was residing with his partner and their baby daughter and complied with all aspects of his prison licence.

"He was doing two jobs, working as a restaurant porter in Glasgow, and his licence expired a matter of weeks before the incidents now before the court."

Sheriff Colin Dunipace deferred sentence until next month for background reports.

Wright was again remanded in custody.
