A court has handed prison sentences to three people involved in bomb attacks in Yala in 2009 and 2017, the International Security Operations Command (Isoc) said yesterday.
On Wednesday morning, Yala's lower court sentenced Nuwa Pano to life in prison for murder, attempted murder, and insurrection, said the deputy spokesman for Isoc's Region 4 command Col Thanawi Suwannarat.
"The defendant was also found guilty of illegal possession of firearms and explosives," he said.
Nuwa was implicated in the attack on security officers in Ban Klong Chingin in Yala's Kabang district on Jan 8, 2009, said Col Thanawi.
"The court also handed down a 9-year prison sentence to Abdullo Chesama-ae," he said. "Meanwhile, Waemayuki Sie was sentenced to 15 years in prison."
Col Thanawi said Abdullo was initially given a 15-year prison sentence, but it was later reduced by one-third due to his confession.
Abdullo and Waemayuki were sentenced for their roles in the April 7, 2017 attack on electricity infrastructure in tambons Phron and Lidon in Yala's Muang district.
All men were ordered to remain in prison, while they launch appeals against the lower court's rulings, said Col Thanawi. It is not clear why their cases took so long to come to trial.
