- Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has been fined by a court after his 1966 Aston Martin, which was undergoing restoration and conversion to an electric vehicle, was found to be uninsured.
- The DVLA identified the lack of insurance on December 17 last year, despite the car being inoperable and off public roads at Aston Workshop Ltd since 2021.
- Sheeran was convicted of keeping a motor vehicle which does not meet insurance requirements and ordered to pay a £666 fine, £100 in costs, and a £266 victim surcharge.
- He submitted a letter to Bradford Magistrates’ Court, explaining he genuinely believed the workshop’s comprehensive insurance policies covered the vehicle and that he never received an initial out-of-court fine offer.
- The case was handled via the Single Justice Procedure on Friday July 31, with Sheeran being among 1,451 people convicted last week for similar offences across England and Wales.
