Court delays election case

The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases on Tuesday postponed a hearing in the case against election officials accused of misconduct over the use of barcodes and QR codes on ballot papers in the Feb 8 general election.

The case was filed by Yongyuth Saokaewsathit against the Election Commission (EC) chairman, Narong Klanwarin, and other officials, including the EC secretary-general, over alleged misconduct in the administration of the election.

They were accused of intentionally instructing the ballot printer to include barcodes and QR codes on ballot papers, enabling ballots to be traced and verified. The complaint alleged the move demonstrates a clear lack of transparency and honesty in the election process.

The court instructed the plaintiff to review the EC's clarification on the matter and its supporting documents and to submit any objections within 15 days. Failure to do so would be treated as acceptance of the submissions. The court rescheduled the hearing on whether to accept the case for Aug 11.
