Court date for allegedly drunk Honeysuckle learner motorcyclist

A LEARNER motorcycle allegedly riding through Honeysuckle with a pillion passenger while intoxicated will face court - and the passenger has also been fined.

Police stopped a motorcyclist on Workshop Way in Newcastle about 2am on Saturday.

Officers allegedly noted the rider, 19, and his 18-year-old pillion passenger were not wearing helments.

Both were breath tested, returning a positive result.

The rider was arrested and taken to Newcastle police station to undergo a breath analysis.

Police will allege that test returned a reading of 0.061.

The 19-year-old received a court attendance notice to face Newcastle Local Court in mid-January for low range drink driving, not wearing a helmet with one passenger also without a helmet, and a learner riding a motorbike carrying another person.

The 17-year-old also received an infringement notice, police said.
