A Yemeni court has banned an editor from working on his magazine for six months. Ali Sakkaf, editor-in-chief of Wahdawi, must also pay a fine of 500,000 Yemeni royals (£1,100). He was prosecuted over a story alleging that the leadership of the Republican Guards seized land without paying compensation to the owners. Sakkaf told United Press International: "It is a move that contradicts official speech about respecting press freedoms." In a separate development, the Organisation of Yemeni Women Journalists Without Limits issued a statement denouncing a hostile media campaign against a female journalist, Samia Aghbari. (Via upi.com)
