Shielding herself with an umbrella and surrounded by supporters, a woman charged over the deaths of two children after she drove into a Sydney classroom has faced court for the first time since the accident.
Maha Al-Shennag, 52, arrived at Bankstown Local Court today after ploughing her car into a demountable at Banksia Road Public School in Greenacre earlier this month, killing two eight-year-old boys and injuring several others.
The mother of four has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death and one charge of negligent driving.
As part of her bail conditions, Ms Al-Shennag is not allowed in the driver's seat of any motor vehicle and had to surrender her Jordanian and Australian passports.
Court documents detailed the single mother's regret over the incident, saying: "She has shown remorse throughout the time she has been in custody."
Neither Ms Al-Shennag, nor her lawyer Nick Hanna, spoke to media outside the court.
The case has been adjourned until February 21, where it will be in Burwood Local Court.
