The Central Administrative Court on Friday decided not to provide an injunction to halt a hike in bus fares after they were raised by 1-7 baht on Monday depending on the bus type.
Association for the Protection of the Constitution secretary-general, Srisuwan Janya, lodged a petition accusing the Central Land Transport Committee of unfairly increasing the financial burden on commuters.
The court said the Central Land Transport Committee had reason to allow the fare hike to stand, adding it was done so services could be improved in addition to reducing the burden on operators.
Meanwhile, the price of fuel and natural gas continues to fluctuate but its general trend is upward, so the order to raise fares is unlikely to be illegal, it said.
If an injunction were issued, bus operators may axe services, reduce buses or downgrade their service, inconveniencing passengers, the court said.
