Couple with toddler found sleeping in rough in car using clothes to keep warm

A couple and their toddler were found asleep in a car, reportedly forced to sleep rough by the cost of living crisis. The vulnerable family was found inside the Kia on Friday night using their clothes to stay warm.

They had a few bags of clothing and not much more. And as reported by Leeds Live, a support network which shared the sad story said it was not a one-off.

Vulnerable Citizen Support Leeds helps "the most destitute people in society" and provides food for vulnerable people in Leeds. Speaking about the family they said: "Sadly this morning we got a phone call of two adults sleeping rough in their car. When we got their we realised that it wasn’t just the adults but a small toddler as well.

"With only a few bags of clothing and not much more. Once again we come across a situation that isn’t a normal one we deal with. It's becoming more and more common as we go on."

The support unit put them in a hotel for the weekend and said: "We can see what we can do Monday morning. Our aim is to carry on with hotel fees - and maybe a bond to get them into a home before it starts getting too cold."

The support team say they are looking for a private rented property for them to stay in. What's more, after sharing the post on social media, a number of people have come forward in Leeds to offer a spare room for them to stay in.

A Go Fund Me Page has been set up to help the family. Click here to donate.
