Couple who met at school celebrate 60 years of happy marriage

A couple who met while they were still at school are celebrating a wonderful 60 years of married life.

David and Elizabeth Brydon celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on August 25 and have been enjoying visits from family and friends who have been helping them to mark the special occasion.

The couple, who stay in Howden, were married at Trinity Church in Keslo and moved to West Lothian 1968. They went on to have one daughter, Jane.

Jane told The Courier: “Mum worked as a medical secretary at Howden Health Centre for 30 years and dad was a landscape supervisor with Livingston Development Corporation for 25 years before taking early retirement. Then was a driver with the out-of-hours doctors service for 13 years.

“Dad has an allotment at Killendean and enjoys showing flowers and vegetables at local shows.

“Mum enjoys reading and always having fresh flowers in the house.

“The have three wonderful dogs who are a great companions and a joy to have in the house.”

Jane said her mum (82) and dad (81) have known each other most of their lives after meeting at school, something that has them enjoy a long and happy marriage.

They have been enjoying plenty of visits from their friends and family and will soon go to the Dalmahoy for afternoon tea.

Jane added: “Dad’s sister has been up and various members of family visiting on different days. We have a few things planned and a few things they didn’t know about, which was nice.”
