After buying a velvet sofa, Kellie Gnauck and Sam Cassidy decided to take some photos of the new addition to their flat in Greenwich, London.
The couple, who are both actors, cosied up on the emerald green couch for a snap before posting it to Instagram for their nearest and dearest to see.
However, one of the pictures ended up baffling thousands of people as it appeared to show the pair swap bodies as they cuddled, due to the positioning in the image.
It was such a striking photo that Kellie, 29, admits she thought it was fake at first as she didn't realise optical illusions like this occurred 'naturally'.
"I'd ordered the couch back in September, so it's been about a five month wait," said Kellie.
"So when it finally came, it was a very big day. And we saw a photo opportunity right there, so we took it.
"The optical illusion is the only reason we put it online. It was, by far, not the nicest picture [of us].
"I honestly thought it was fake. I didn't realise these types of pictures happened naturally."
The photo quickly drew attention online and garnered more than 1,250 likes and comments from social media users
Kellie captioned the post, writing: "Photoshoot with your new sofa? Sure! Why not!
"And by pure luck and many blessings, we ended up with picture number three. Which might just be lockdown's finest achievement.
"Hell, it might be life's finest achievement...who's to say."
Sam seemed to find the situation rather amusing, as the 34-year-old added: "I didn't find it creepy at all, I thought it was brilliant. I'd looked at the photo and realised how lucky we were to be chosen in such a world.
"We're a blessed pair, few people can say they've experienced such wonder.
"I think people online realised how rare this was. It's very rare - rarer than a unicorn!"
Kellie's followers were quick to spot the bizarre illusion, with one replying: "That last picture f**ked with my brain for a second."
Another commented: "Last photo is one of those photos where you get hella confused."
