Man and woman suffer 'life-changing injuries' after being mauled by out-of-control dog

A man and woman have been left permanently injured after being attacked by a "dangerously out of control" dog.

Police were called to the scene on a residential street in Wigan, Greater Manchester after reports of the attack late on Monday night.

Officers who were on the scene found a "dangerously out of control" dog in a house in the Hindley Green area of the town.

A man and woman were found badly injured at the scene, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said, and were immediately rushed to hospital.

Their injuries are serious and 'potentially life-changing', but not life-threatening, Manchester Evening News reports.

Officers are urging anyone with information about the attack to come forward.

The dog has since been seized and is being held at a kennels whilst investigations continue into the case.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 11.30pm on Monday 8 May 2023, officers responded to reports that a dog was dangerously out of control in a property on Thomas Street in Wigan.

"A man and a woman were injured during the incident.

"Both remain in hospital with serious and potentially life-changing injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

"The dog was seized by specialist officers and is currently being held in kennels. Enquiries are currently ongoing.

"Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact police. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity – Crimestoppers - anonymously on 0800 555 111."
