Two people spotted walking parrot through Manchester city centre

It takes a lot to shock the residents overlooking Manchester's canal paths.

But the sight of a two people taking a pet parrot for a waterside stroll was enough to turn a few heads.

The macaw, with its striking blue and yellow plumage, seemed to be enjoying its Saturday morning perched on the shoulder of a man.

The trio were snapped walking along the stretch of canal between Ducie Street and Ancoats.

One spotter Mike Halley said: "I thought it was everything great about our city.

"Everyone just carried on as if a regular day occurrence."

Another resident who lives in a building overlooking the canal added: "I did a double-take when I saw the parrot.

"They were just sitting on one of the picnic benches enjoying their snacks without a care in the world.

"Whatever floats your boat, I guess."
