When you get married, you expect a certain level of trust from your partner that they won't do things that upset you or lie to you about where they are or who they're with.
But one newlywed couple has taken that sentiment to a whole new level after they put strict rules in place to make sure neither of them does anything without the other knowing - including ensuring their spouse can always see their location at any given moment.
Jaden and Andy McGrew went viral online for their "controversial" list of marriage rules, which include sharing their location on family location-sharing app Life 360, sharing all their passwords with each other, and banning each other from spending any time alone with someone of the opposite sex.
The pair, from Texas, USA, shared their rules in a TikTok video posted to their joint @jadenandandy account, where they said they "didn't realise" their rules were controversial until people started commenting on them.
Jaden told Fox News Digital : "We received backlash on multiple videos we posted regarding some of the things we mentioned we do.
"These are things we agreed on in our relationship over time and from experience. We never really sat down and came up with ‘rules,’ but that seems to be how people have interpreted it. These are just things that work for us in our current stage of life, and we were shocked to see how controversial they were!"
Commenters on the couple's video were split over the rules, as many of them actually said they don't disagree with the rules at all - and others saying they feel like the "opposite of trust".
One person said: "Instead of rules, I think these are common sense."
While another added: "Why are these considered controversial? My hubby and I are the exact same way and it's because we have total trust and respect for each other."
But someone else disagreed, stating: "This is like the opposite of trust to me."
As a fourth posted: "It's always the people that have zero trust in their partner that talk about how great their marriage is."
Despite the backlash, Jaden and Andy have insisted their rules are "just practical", and don't have anything to do with their Christian faith.
Jaden said: "While we believe that marriage is the greatest commitment one can make and want to protect our marriage, none of the things mentioned in the video are based solely on our faith.
"For example, sharing location is just practical and allows us to check in on each other without having to wait on a response."
